Calder neigbourhood is located in the north west part of Edmonton, north of CN Rail and Yellowhead Trail, between 127 and 132 avenue, and 127 and 113A street. The area was once part of the Hudson’s Bay Company reserve. The neighbourhood was also a town and its residents were working in repair shops and shunt yards nearby. Calder joined Edmonton in 1917.
Real Estate: Majority of Calder’s homes are single detached bungalows with some 2 storeys and bilevels, which were build between 1910’s and 1960’s. There are some duplexes, townhouses and low rise apartments, mostly built at the beginning of 1970’s. in the recent years, some of the older homes have been taken down and replaced with newer single detached houses and half duplexes, as the yards in Calder are quite large.
Culture, Parks and Sports: Grand Truck Leisure Centre and Park which includes swimming pool, gym, tennis and basketball courts, soccer and football fields, which is located just east of Calder, off leash park area for dogs, Calder Community Park, Keyano Park, nearby Rosslyn and Kensington Park.
Schools: St.Edmund and Calder Elementary, nearby Rosslyn Junior High, Kensington Elementary, Pere Lacome French School.
Amenities: nearby Kensington Plaza, El-Safadi Borthers, Pembina and Castles Down Centre. Most of small business, stores, restaurants and cafes are located on 137 avenue and 127 street.
Transportation: Bus routes on 127, 129 and 132 avenue, also on 113A and 127 street.
